** Mechanic's Special **
Up for offer is this 2000 BMW M Coupe. These are extremely rare cars, with a production run from 1999 - 2002 of only 2,858 vehicles in North America. This particular example is 1 of 363 finished in Titanium Silver over Black Nappa leather interior. These M Coupes, known colloquially as "clownshoes", were outfitted with the S52 inline 6 engine from the E36 BMW M3 making 240 HP, and the only transmission offered was a 5-speed manual. They're all rear wheel drive.
As the listing states, this car needs quite a bit of work. It seems like this was a very nice car at one point in its life, and the last couple of owners drove it into the ground while performing zero routine maintenance on it. After a couple of weekends on jack stands with someone who knows what they're doing, this could be an extremely nice driver, or a fitting street/track car candidate. It spent most of its early life in California before going to Florida and then Georgia, then coming to Nebraska in the summer of 2024. A history report shows accidents in 2006 and 2015, but the car has retained a clean title and was not totaled. It's extremely clean and rust-free underneath (see pics). Aftermarket modifications include TC Kline coilovers in the front with Koni shocks and lowering springs in the rear, Work Meister S1 2 piece wheels, an intake of unknown brand, a Racing Dynamics strut brace, and a Magnaflow exhaust. It even has the original tool kit and window sticker!
Known issues - the biggest of all is the rear trailing arm bushings, a known issue on this platform. The front brakes are just about gone, and the rears are not far behind. I'd do pads, rotors, and a fluid flush ASAP. There's a power steering line leaking. The valve cover gasket is leaking. The rear tires need replacing ASAP due to wear on the inside from the camber the car is running. There's quite a bit of play in the steering rack. The drive belt is cracked and dry rotted. The driveshaft guibo is dry rotted and cracked and should be replaced. Lastly, the rubber elbow on the intake is torn and should be replaced. I'm sure there are other little things, but this is the bulk of it.
The car runs and drives as-is. I'd happily drive it for a 100 mile road trip, but I probably wouldn't daily drive it without addressing a few of its issues. The motor pulls strong and feels healthy, and the transmission shifts as it should and springs to neutral as it should. The clutch pickup is smooth and grabs well. I'm happy to discuss in detail what the car needs with any interested parties. Listing at $20k but it needs to find a new home, so I'm entertaining any reasonable offers. The car is available for showing at Bentley Omaha. Happy to answer any questions via DM
