2001 BMW M Coupe in Black Sapphire Metallic over Black Nappa
  • Exterior Color Black Sapphire Metallic
  • Interior Color Black Nappa
  • Engine S54

Seller Description

This 2001 BMW M Coupe has 80k miles and is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic over Black Nappa leather, a combination found on just 74 M Coupes according to the to the M Coupe Buyer’s Guide. The car is powered by an S54 3.2L inline-six paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, and has been with the seller for 4 years and 23k miles. This example remains mechanically stock, while interior modifications include a LeatherZ armrest, ZHP illuminated shift knob, and GROM audio 3.5mm audio input. BMW Major Service #2 was completed at 60k miles, and June 2016 work at 79k miles included replacement of both door lock cylinders, a brake system flush, air filter, and an oil/filter change. The sale includes the original owner’s manual and window sticker, and service history back to 2007. This car is offered with a clean Carfax and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Black Sapphire Metallic (475) paintwork shows well, and the addition of clear side markers is the only exterior modification. The seller notes that both bumpers, the hood, and roof have been repainted to fix rock chips, parking scrapes, or minor dents. Also reported and highlighted with photos below are two noticeable exterior dents, one above the driver’s door and one above the driver-side front wheel. A few paint chips are visible on the exposed front airdam, rear fenders, and around the gas cap opening.

A brief walk-around video of this M Coupe is provided, filmed with the engine running.

The Black Nappa leather interior (Q6SW) interior appears complete, with the driver’s seat showing a bit of puckering to the back surface. The driver’s seat bolster leather has been professionally repaired, but the seller reports the leather is not an exact match, with a more matte finish than the surrounding material.

Interior modifications include a LeatherZ armrest, GROM audio kit with 3.5mm audio input, and a ZHP illuminated shift knob, though its light is currently out. The passenger-side knee panel has a few small holes from a prior cell phone install, and a number of scuffs are visible here as well.

The seller reports all switchgear, lighting, and accessories are functioning correctly. Both door lock cylinders have replaced with OEM BMW parts to repair spinning tumblers, a sagging glovebox liner has been remedied, and the rearview mirror received a retrofit by original manufacturer Sybesma Electronics to repair the auto dimming feature. The car is optioned with Harmon/Kardon sound, and the name plate on the subwoofer cover is cracked.

This M Coupe rides on factory five-pointed M Roadstar wheels, shod all around with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that the seller notes have covered less than 200 miles. The rims have been touched-up to address prior curb rash, and all are clean with a few minor stone chips to one wheel only.

Only 678 M Coupes were delivered with the S54 (B32) inline-six, which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox in this example and delivered 315hp when new. The seller notes completion of BMW Major Service #2 at 60k miles, including valve adjustments, new fuel filter, rear axle and transmission fluid changes, and drive belt, along with suspension and brake inspections. Oil/filter changes have been done at 60k, 71k, and 79k miles.

Underbody photos show no signs of leaks or seeps, and the seller reports there have been no drivetrain modifications. Surface corrosion is visible and appears limited to exhaust tubing, the seams of the muffler boxes, and a few bolt heads. Several newer suspension arms are shown, and newer clamps to several boots suggest recent replacement or service. The seller describes an exhaust rattle for about 5 seconds when the car is started after a few days idle.

The rear cargo area is tidy and holds an original tool kit. Scuff marks are visible on the hatch jambs, and the plastic divider of the privacy cover is also scratched according to the seller.

This M Coupe is accompanied by an original owner’s manual and window sticker, and service history for current and prior ownership back to 2007.

Consistently garaged during the seller’s four years of ownership, the car is offered with new European 2-piece front brake rotors, performance brake pads, and original amber side markers.

Documentation includes a clean Carfax confirming the mileage.

Sold to a high bid of $34,500 which seems just right to me. That's $36,225 with the 5% buyer fee to BAT.

Another S54 coupe on BAT! The interior is in nice shape overall and the repaired driver bolster looks pretty good. It's had some paint work but would make an excellent driver at 80k miles. The extra OEM Euro 2-piece rotors are a plus. Bidding is currently at just $7,500.
