1999 BMW Z3 M Coupe
131XXX Miles
Clean Title
Passed Smog 12/11/20
A perfect driver's car and an excellent project car. I have spent over $3k in repairs this past month, and the previous owner spent similar time / effort in making this a well-sorted example of a modern classic.
Engine: 9/10
- Stock S52, healthy compression, only modification is a mechanical fan delete kit
- New oil pan gasket, oil filter housing gasket, valve cover (entire piece), power steering reservoir and hoses, upstream O2 sensors, idler pulley
- Replaced last year: water pump, radiator hoses, belts, flex disk, air filter, oil separator hose
- DME flashed to stock by Irvine BMW
- Belts squeal in cold weather, included in the sale are new tensioners + tensioner pulleys
Suspension: 9/10
- New engine + transmission mounts
- New Powerflex front control arm bushings
- New Koni Yellow rear shocks, matching front shocks included in sale
- New H&R rear sway bar
- New Pirelli P Zero Nero GT tires w/ < 2000 miles

Interior: 7/10
- Majority of the panels and trim are in excellent condition
- Power windows, sunroof, and seats functional
- Seat cushioning is in excellent condition
- Driver door card + shifter trim piece are damaged and need refurbishing / replacing
- Glovebox sags, included in the sale is a reinforcement bar to repair it
- Temperature control knob broke recently, stuck on heat. I believe the blend door may be stuck, common occurrence on Z3s. A/C was blowing cold before that.
- Silly dash tweeters from a previous owner, should come out easily
- Aftermarket security system (fully functional)
- Driver seat leather has some light wear, could be fixed w/ dye
Exterior: 7/10
- Car looks excellent from 5 feet away, paint is generally in good shape
- OEM wheels resurfaced and powder coated black
- H&R wheel spacers
- New BMW sport antenna
- Few small dents on passenger side
- Crummy repair job on front bumper fang, rear bumper has a slight fitment issue
- Passenger rear tail light has a small crack
Subframe reinforcement was carried out by the previous owner wherein a custom steel diff ear was fabricated and welded onto a reinforced cross member. While I feel this will suffice for street driving, a more comprehensive approach would be to weld the crossmember to the frame rails. Included in the sale is a Randy Forbes subframe reinforcement kit + correspondence between me and Randy Forbes where we discuss what was performed and how to finish the reinforcement w/ his design. Trunk floor is in good shape, one spot weld is beginning to tear.
Car comes w/ a box of maintenance parts, including new front Koni yellow shocks, new CCV valve, belt tensioners + pulleys, new fuel filter + hoses, oil filters, and more.
I’ve only owned the car for a few months. Selling it simply because I’m not enjoying it as much as I’d hoped, sticking w/ JDM and American after this.
Buyer is highly encouraged to research these cars and perform their own inspection. I have tried to represent the car as truthfully as possible and the car is sold as is. If the smog has expired before a sale is concluded I will secure a new smog certificate for the buyer.
